The art of designing attire is known as fashion design. Fashion design as a subject of studies draws on a variety of fields, including history, commerce, drawing, and tech. Fashion design is entwined with culture as an art form.
What are the types of fashion?
Clothing is divided into three primary categories, each of which can be further subdivided into additional, distinct types. These include: Haute couture, Ready-to-wear (prêt-à-porter), and Mass market.
Fashion apparel was mostly developed and made on a crafted or haute couture (French meaning high-sewing) system until the 1950s, with each item being handmade for a single customer. A couture garment is produced to order for a specific customer, and it is typically made from high-end, costly fabric, and it is stitched with meticulous attention to detail and execution, frequently employing time-consuming, hand-executed methods. The appearance and fit take precedence over the prices of raw materials and production time. Haute couture generates minimal real income for fashion businesses due to the expensive cost of each outfit, but it is crucial for reputation and visibility.
What is Ready-to-wear (prêt-à-porter) Fashion?
Clothing that is ready-to-wear, or prêt-à-porter, is a hybrid of high couture and mass market. They are not manufactured for existing clients, but the fabric is chosen and cut with great care.
Because clothes are created in tiny amounts to ensure exclusivity, they are quite costly. Clothing brands normally present ready-to-wear ensembles at Fashion Week each season.
This is a city-wide event that happens twice a year. Spring/summer, fall/winter, resort, swim, and bridal are the key periods of Fashion Week.
Half-way apparel are a fashionable option to ready-to-wear, “off-the-rack,” or prêt-à-porter clothing. Half-way clothes are purposefully incomplete items of apparel that promote co-design between the garment’s “primary designer” and the “passive consumer,” as it is generally referred to.
This varies from ready-to-wear fashion in that the customer can assist in the design and manufacturing process. Hirscher and Niinimaki discovered that human involvement in the clothing procedure generated a relevant “story” for the user, establishing a person-product link and increasing the emotional worth of the final product.
What is Mass Market Fashion?
The fashion industry currently heavily relies on mass-market purchases. The mass market serves to a wide spectrum of clientele, creating ready-to-wear products based on fashion trends established by well-known designers.
They frequently wait a season to see if a trend will catch on before creating their own replicas look. They use cheaper textiles and quicker production procedures that can be fully automated to save time and money.
As a result, the final product is available for a substantially lower price.
A design style known as “kutch” comes from the German word kitschig, which means “trashy” or “not aesthetically attractive.” Wearing or displaying anything that is no longer fashionable is often known as kitsch.
